cONTEXT

SIN CURRÍCULO (Without Curriculum) is an art/education project in the form of a temporary school in Cali Colombia and in Zürich Switzerland that questions the traditional concept of education that conceives students as containers into which educators must put knowledge. Departing from the question how does a school/classroom look like without a curriculum and how such a space impacts and affect the micro-politics of the city? This project

is a space for agency, inter-cultural understanding, autonomy and self-discovery through collective creation, discussion and action.

Due to an initial funding, during the month of January 2017 we had the chance to fly to Colombia to start SIN CURRÍCULO. We worked for the period of three weeks in collaboration with el Voluntariado Pastoral  de la Universidad Javeriana and with Fundación Formación de Futuros and we organized our vision and interest. Out of this meetings and teaching and learning experiments we came up with the idea of developing an afterschool for people of all ages in the Distrito de Agua Blanca, an underprivileged neighborhood in Cali, while partnering up with the institutions mentioned before, with the intention of opening a space where Afro-Colombian communities, local populations, and foreigners can exchange knowledge, learn from each and develop ideas that bring well being to city.

rELEVANCE

SIN CURRÍCULO is an art/educational project that fosters a non-hierarchical school configuration where we redefine the roll of teachers and students as having the same amount agency and capacity of decision. Our aim by doing this in two continents and diverse cities like Cali in Colombia and Zürich in Switzerland is to foster intercultural understanding and personal agency between migrating communities in the city through an art educational context. We believe that by opening a space of decision and election we can affect the micro and macro politics of our contexts through creative means and integration.

As the content of SIN CURRÍCULO is formed by the individual interests, needs and wishes of the participants, and through conversation and collective action, the participants will learn from each other and by doing that we foster cultural understanding and exchange. Through this participants learn, what they think is useful for themselves.

We believe that education and art are, necessarily, forms of politics. By offering no content the participant have to become conscious of their processes and effect of their actions with regard to culture, economics, social policy and freedom of expression.
